John McCarthy was born on September 4th, 1927, and died October 24th, 2011. He graduated from the California Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, then went on to receive his doctorate from Princeton. McCarthy was one of the first to perform research in the field of artificial intelligence, and was considered an AI pioneer. Additionally, he created the computer programming language LISP, which was used across the AI community. Lastly, McCarthy helped with developing the Elephant 2000, which was a programming language with different features based on speech acts. |
